tagalog movies marathon

By tsukibanii

Holy Week, therefore we don’t have classes :)
With the school year ending fast and piles of projects that are due this monday, I should really get on going. But what did I do?… watch tagalog movies XD

We don’t have TFC so we rely on DVDs and VCDs that friends are willing to share for our dose of tagalog movies. While in the Philippines, I am not so much of a fan of them… I find them not interesting enough… in short, not my cup of tea. It is only now that I’m here (where all I hear is English) that I came to love and crave tagalog movies.

I’ve been away for five years now. I’ve only started watching tagalog movies last year, and boy was I surprise… I don’t know any of the actors/actresses in their! I was like… who’s that? what happened to him/her?… I always find myself lost and confused on the characters. Now I really should get updated on these.

My dad’s friend is a Filipino movie-holic. Actually, their whole family is. They have aloooot of Tagalog movies. They let me borrow a number of them.. (about 10-15 movies). Too bad I have exams and stuff so I can’t really watch them all. But yesterday’s different.. I can’t resist the temptation. She recommended the film called “You are the one”
. The main cast is Toni Gonzaga (which I just saw for the first time…and heard!) and Mike Milby (Im not even sure of the spelling). Thats the first one that we watched. The second one was “Dreamboy” starring Piolo Pascual (now, that guy I recognize XD) and Bea Alonzo? (not too familiar, but I’ve seen her other movies with Lloyd…). The third, which we watched just this morning is “Moments in Time” and the last one that we just saw was “White Lady
You are the One. short summary: Sally (Toni Gonzaga) is a civil worker who is not enthusiastic at all to go to the US. Her parents and her sister is insisting that she go there. She goes to the Embassy, half-heartedly, to get a VISA where she meets Will (Mike Milby), her consul. She explains her reason for going to the US where Will decides to not grant her a VISA. This left an angry Sally. The next day, Will goes to a Sensus office to get information about a Bernard Garcia. He was given a paper to fill in and he fills it in except for the information about the birthplace and the parents’ names. When he was about to submit it, they told him that they can’t do anything about it because the information is not enough. They directed him to the ’special cases’ office where he comes face to face with Sally again. Will doesn’t recognize her, but Sally, upon seeing him, goes instantly outraged….

What can I say about it?… I find it enjoyable and cute. Out of all the movies that I’ve just seen (out of the 4) I like this one best. The story is natural, a romantic-simplistic movie. It was at the same time funny. I really love how Toni Gonzaga portrayed her character. Her acting is so cute, especially her ‘quick-to-slap’ action. Her voice and character is not like those others whom I find ‘Over’ and ‘maarte’. The guy, Mike Milby (not sure XD) is…uhm.okay. He has some cute angles throughout the scene. What I find cute is his struggle to talk in Tagalog. He tends to use ‘tag-lish’ alot and whenever he talks in Tagalog, you can really hear his accent. The other casts are also funny. Overall, this tagalog movie is satisfying. Its not too cheesy, not too serious and not too romantic.

Dreamboy summary: A girl who is into romance books, but is never satisfied with her current life – or love life. She dreams of a grand love story and doesn’t quite know what she wants. Enter Phillip, Eboy and Jaime. Three different personalities, awfully look-alikes. She meets all of them, dates all of them and well..just watch it.

Opinion… I don’t really find it likeable, no offence. The story is shallow and the first scenes are confusing. The character development is confusing too…and so is the love development. All thoughout the film, we were all wondering what happened… why that FAST. The story is like Trueman/Truman (Forgot the spelling) starring Jim Carrey. I find the guy(s) annoying and ‘presko? masyado’. All of them are too proud and arrggh! The love idea in this film is shallow too, just not my taste, so I can’t really comment on it. so, NEXT!

Moments in Time summary: A guy from the present and a girl from the past (45 years apart) is connected through a phone. Both the guy and the girl is presently in that same house, in that same setting and they talk through a phone. The girl, soon-to-be-married slowly falls in love with the guy, and vice-versa.

opinion: The scenes are confusing. Confusing like ‘the Lakehouse’ starring Sandra Bullock. Plot line is okay, like I said, it’s really similar to the Lake House, just with additions and twists. Again, I’m not too familiar with most of the actors/actress, I just recognize those ‘old ones.’ XD

White Lady summary: There’s been an ongoing sightings of a white lady in this art school. This whitelady is vengeful towards this particular group of students.

opinion: The story’s simple too, and kind of confusing. It is suppose to be Horror, but it doesn’t really have that horror feel into it. The only ’scary’ scene that made me jump was when the whitelady is chasing after this character Mimi. It’s not really scary, but ‘nakakagulat’. The white lady here looks awfully like the girl in The Ring. The plotline is okay, I like the small twist of the story at the end. Overall…not really that good, but just okay ^^.
